What This Integration Does
This integration routes Monday.com board activity into Slack with per-board channel mapping, per-status formatting, and smart filtering so the team gets what they need without drowning in updates. Item creation, status changes, column changes, comments, and automation outputs all post into Slack in a format the team can actually read.
It is the integration to build when Monday is the operational system but team coordination happens in Slack and the two need to stay in step.
The Workflow
When a Monday item is created or a status changes on a watched column, the integration receives the event, finds the configured Slack channel for the board and group, and posts a message formatted to highlight the change. Different status values trigger different formats. A status moving to “Stuck” posts as an alert tagging the item owner and a configured escalation contact; a status moving to “Done” posts as a confirmation with the time-to-completion calculated against the item’s creation timestamp.
A specific chain: a customer service operations board where each item is an escalated ticket. When a new item is created in the “Open Escalations” group, the integration posts to the #customer-ops channel with the customer name, the ticket priority, the assigned agent, and a one-line description from the item’s first comment. When the agent moves the item to “Awaiting Customer,” a threaded update posts under the original. If the item sits in “Awaiting Customer” for more than three working days without further activity, the integration posts a follow-up alert tagging the team lead. When the item is finally moved to “Resolved,” a closing message threads under the original with the total elapsed time and a one-line resolution summary.
Group changes and item moves between boards also post, with clear messages explaining the move so the team always knows where a piece of work currently lives.
Before and After
Before, Monday’s built-in Slack notifications either post nothing useful or post everything in one channel. The team checks Monday manually for updates because the notifications cannot be trusted. Escalations sit too long because no one is watching.
After, the right team sees the right item in the right channel with the right framing. Escalations get followed up automatically. Closed items get acknowledged. Monday stays the operational source of truth while Slack carries the live signal.
Who Needs This
Customer operations teams, project management offices, agency delivery teams, and any business using Monday boards as the operational system for case-based, ticket-based, or item-based work. The integration is worth building once a team’s Monday board grows beyond what one person can casually monitor.
How We Build This
We build this against the Monday.com API (queries, mutations, webhooks) and the Slack API Integration. Monday webhooks fire on column changes, item creation, and automations; the integration filters and routes each event per board configuration.
Get Monday and Slack Connected
If Monday is your operational system and Slack is your team’s coordination layer, we can build a custom integration that routes board activity to the right channel with the right format. See Connect Asana to Slack and Connect ClickUp to Slack for related integrations, or browse the integrations overview.
