Custom Software for St John’s and Enterprise City Creative & Digital Agencies

Custom software for digital, marketing and creative agencies in St John's and Enterprise City, Manchester — project visibility and client reporting.

The site where Coronation Street and the Granada current-affairs newsroom were made has been rebuilt, by Allied London and Aviva Investors, into Enterprise City: the digital, media and creative cluster at the heart of Manchester’s St John’s neighbourhood, immediately south of Spinningfields. The old studios kept their pull on the creative industries even after the cameras left, and the new million-square-foot estate has leaned into it: a home for technology, digital, media and production firms, anchored by Booking.com’s 220,000 sq ft and now home to The Factory (Aviva Studios) next door.

Booking.com and the global networks that have moved in (the WPP and MediaCom names among them) are not who this page is for; at that scale they build software in-house. The buyers here are the independent digital, marketing, creative and production agencies that give the cluster its character: firms like Code Computerlove, Department and Auden, and post-production operators like The Farm Group in the ABC Buildings. Growing, client-funded, deadline-driven, and running with no engineering team of their own.

What an Enterprise City Agency Is Really Wrestling With

The creative and technical work is the easy part. What strains as these agencies grow is the operation that surrounds client delivery, especially the part the client sees:

  • Client reporting is assembled by hand for each retainer, pulling numbers from analytics, the project tool and the time tracker into a deck nobody enjoys building.
  • Resource planning across concurrent accounts lives in someone’s head or a fragile spreadsheet, so the same people get committed twice.
  • Project and campaign visibility is patchy: no single read on what is live, what is at risk and what is profitable.
  • Time and billing leak because logging is inconsistent and the project tool does not line up with accounting.
  • Onboarding a new client is reinvented every time instead of running on rails.

These are operational problems with software answers, and for a retainer-driven agency they bear directly on the thing the client judges them by: whether delivery feels in control.

What We Build for Digital and Creative Agencies

The platforms here are familiar. Many agencies run Synergist or Streamtime for project, resource and billing management; others rely on a patchwork of tools and spreadsheets. Either way the work is to connect and extend, not replace:

  • Integrations that wire the agency platform to the CRM, analytics and accounting (Xero or Sage), so a job and its numbers flow once. This is our core API integration work.
  • Automated client reporting that pulls campaign, project and time data into a branded, always-current report or portal, instead of a hand-built monthly deck.
  • Resource and project dashboards giving leadership one live view of capacity, deadlines and profitability across accounts.
  • Client onboarding and approval workflows, and bespoke web applications where nothing off the shelf fits: the custom software that matches how the agency runs.

Based in St John’s?

If your team does excellent work but every retainer report is built by hand and no one can see capacity across accounts, that is the operational drag worth removing first. Tell us how a campaign moves from brief to client report in your agency and we will show you where the manual steps come out. St John’s is one of the creative quarters within our wider Manchester work.
