Software Testing Services

Automated, manual, and specialist software testing for web applications -- unit, integration, end-to-end, performance, security, accessibility, and more.

Why Testing Belongs in the Build, Not at the End

Software testing is what stands between a system that looks correct and a system that actually behaves correctly under every condition that matters. It is the work of proving that the application does what it should, and just as importantly, that it does not do what it should not, across every change, every release, and every realistic load.

Most failures we are called in to fix were not caught by testing because no testing existed, or because the tests that did exist were superficial. A unit test suite that runs in two seconds and never touches a database is reassuring but rarely catches the bugs that break production. A manual checklist that grew up alongside an application is impossible to keep current and gets skipped under deadline pressure. The result is the same in both cases: bugs reach users, releases become slower because nobody trusts them, and engineering time is consumed by firefighting instead of building.

We treat testing as engineering work, not as a separate phase that happens after development is “done.” Across our own platform and dozens of client engagements, the systems with the lowest defect rates and the fastest release cadences are the ones where tests run on every commit, cover the behaviour that matters, and fail loudly when something breaks. Our own dashboard runs PHPUnit unit and feature suites on every push, alongside Pint, PHPStan, and a frontend build. Four parallel checks that block deploys when any of them fail. That same discipline is what we bring to client work.

Testing is also the cheapest insurance you will ever buy against the cost of regression. A bug caught in a unit test costs minutes to fix. The same bug caught in production costs hours of incident response, customer trust, and data cleanup. We have seen single regressions consume more engineering time in one week than a full automated test suite would have cost to build in the first place.

What We Cover

The pages below describe each category of testing we offer. Some are foundational and apply to every system. Others are specialist services for specific risks: accessibility, security, performance under load. Most engagements combine several layers; very few systems need only one.

Foundational layers (applicable to most systems):

  • Automated Testing: the umbrella discipline of running tests on every commit so regressions are caught before merge. The strategy and CI infrastructure that makes everything else possible.
  • Unit Testing: fast, isolated tests that verify individual functions and classes. The base of the testing pyramid and the fastest feedback loop developers have.
  • Integration Testing: testing how components work together: controllers with databases, services with external APIs, jobs with queues. Where most real bugs hide.
  • End-to-End Testing: driving the full application as a user would, from browser click to database write. The only way to verify that critical user flows actually work.
  • Regression Testing: the ongoing practice of running existing tests on every change so previously fixed bugs do not silently return.

Specialist services (applied where the risk justifies them):

  • Performance Testing: measuring how the system behaves under realistic and peak load. Finds the bottlenecks that only appear with concurrency.
  • Security Testing: finding the vulnerabilities a malicious user would try to exploit, before they do. Distinct from the remediation work covered by Security Hardening.
  • Accessibility Testing: verifying that the application is usable by people relying on screen readers, keyboard navigation, and assistive technology. WCAG conformance and Equality Act compliance.
  • Visual Regression Testing: catching unintended UI changes that code review misses. Broken layouts, shifted components, regressed styles, all surfaced before they reach users.
  • API Testing: verifying API contracts, response shapes, and behaviour across versions. Critical for systems with mobile apps, integrations, or external consumers.
  • Cross-Browser and Device Testing: proving the application works across the browsers and devices your users actually use, not just the ones you develop on.
  • User Acceptance Testing: the structured testing real users do before sign-off, where business logic and edge cases that no developer would think to test get exercised.
  • A/B Testing Implementation: the engineering and instrumentation that lets product decisions be made on evidence rather than opinion.

When to Look at Other Sections Instead

If your concern is fixing rather than finding (closing known vulnerabilities, optimising slow queries, modernising a legacy system), the right starting points are Security Hardening, Performance Optimisation, and Legacy Modernisation. Testing finds the issues; those services fix them. Most engagements pair the two.

If you want to understand the concepts before commissioning work, the Knowledge Center and Glossary explain unit testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing, A/B testing, and penetration testing in plain terms. Those pages are written for business owners deciding what they need; this section is written for businesses deciding who they want to do the work.

If you are setting up testing on your own engineering team, our How to Set Up Automated Testing guide walks through the practical steps to get a CI pipeline running.

Where to Start

If you have an existing application with no test suite at all, Automated Testing is the right starting point. We begin with the highest-risk paths and build from there. If you already have tests but releases keep breaking, Regression Testing and End-to-End Testing are usually where the gaps live. For a specific concern driving the conversation (a security review, a performance complaint, an accessibility audit), jump directly to the matching specialist page.

We are not a fit for one-off “smoke test” engagements where a team wants tests written and never touched again. Tests are only valuable if they keep running, and the discipline of keeping them green is part of what we deliver.

Software testing services sit within our broader set of services alongside development, system builds, and consulting.

Not Sure Which Layer You Need?

Get in touch and tell us what you are seeing: bugs slipping into production, slow releases, an audit coming up, or anything else. We will recommend the layers that fit the actual risk, not the longest possible engagement.
